A dynamic public artwork, completed on 9th november 2018, developed by internationally acclaimed artists, for an outstanding natural setting, with numerous international contractors involved in the production and installation. The first project I was involved in, since being hired as head of project, for Lys På Aarhus.
Origin is an artwork consisting of three large-form sculptural installations, combining metal work, lighting and control electronics into each sculpture.
The interplay between the light fixtures and metal structures in each, are unique across the three sculptures. Each sculpture being site specific, for their location.
Experience:
I came into this project at a late stage, when most of the design and technical production had been done. Lacking communication and negligence from the former head of project had resulted in multiple issues in the project, that gave way to a mismatch in the needs of the artists vs. our organisation’s capacity to provide certain services.
Highlighted circumstances, that I dealt with in this project:
- Working out disagreements between our organisation and the artists, mainly brought on by a lacking original project contract and understanding / acceptance hereof.
- Clearing up lacking approvals, during critical installation fase.
- Developing and deploying communication plan and opening ceremony in a late stage of the project.
- Securing approved maintenance plan between artists and our origanisation, adjusting details to be in line with our technical requirements.
- Developing and executing press package consisting of photography, signage, descriptions, publication etc.
This artwork gave me an unmatched experience, in sorting out crisis in a critical point of a project. A trial by (someone else’s) fire, you could say.
